Offered Here: Small Faces 1977 Playmates Lot of 2 Abbey Road Studios Acetates. This lot contains two single-sided acetates from the 1977 album 'Playmates', produced at Abbey Road Studios. This album was the first studio release from the reunited Small Faces, featuring members Steve Marriott, Ian McLagan, Kenney Jones, and Rick Wills. These acetates are reference cuts used during the production process and bear Abbey Road studio labels with handwritten details from the original engineering team. They include nine of the ten tracks from the album, with 'Lookin' for a Love' not present, as it was released as a single earlier.
Additional Information: The album 'Playmates' marked the return of Small Faces after an extended hiatus since their previous disbandment in the late 1960s. Recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, the album was released in coordination with the emerging punk and new wave movements, although it remained true to the band's established rock roots. Being recorded at Abbey Road imparted a heightened sense of quality and precision to the album's production.
Provenance/Authenticity: This lot comes directly from the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Ian McLagan, legendary founder and keyboard player of iconic rock band The Small Faces / Faces. McLagan who also toured with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians and Bob Dylan, and recorded with dozens of artists. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Lee McLagan, on behalf of the Ian McLagan estate.
Condition: The acetates are in exceptionally clean condition with original luster and minimal signs of handling, consistent with sensitive studio items. They are stored in a generic white outer sleeve bearing the group name written in pen. The sleeve shows signs of wear, aging, and storage, including yellowing and edge wear, but has effectively protected the lacquer surfaces over the years.
