Offered Here: Sammy Hagar 1984 VOA RIAA Gold Sales Award Presented to Zeke Clark With COA
Item Details: An outstanding piece of eighties hard rock memorabilia, this authentic RIAA gold sales award commemorates Sammy Hagar's hit 1984 solo album, VOA, which featured the iconic anthem "I Can't Drive 55." This highly collectible piece is a classic flower hologram style award, utilizing the distinctive RIAA hologram design issued during this era. Uniquely configured as a combined record and cassette award, it celebrates the certified sales milestones of both formats. The award is officially presented to Zeke Clark, Sammy Hagar's legendary longtime guitar technician, adding an exceptional layer of authentic music industry provenance to this 17 x 21 inch display.
Provenance/Authenticity: Randall "Zeke" Clark is a renowned luthier and legendary guitar/amp technician who got his start in the San Francisco music scene in the 70s, working with various A-list artists until moving to LA in the 80s, where he worked for Eddie Van Halen.
From 1985 to 1993, he served as Edward Van Halen’s lead guitar and amp tech, transitioning to the crew with Sammy Hagar to maintain the band's gear through the monumental 5150, OU812, and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge eras.
Beyond his historic tenure as the custodian of Eddie's tone, Clark's elite five-decade career includes building, repairing, and maintaining specialized gear for iconic artists such as Prince, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Heart, Poison, and others. This curated selection of items offers collectors a unique and direct connection to rock history through the hands of a master craftsman who shaped the sound of guitar royalty.
This item was personally handled, vetted, and released by Zeke Clark, ensuring its authenticity and rock-history provenance. Zeke Clark utilizes an Official Personal Signature Stamp to validate and inventory documents and artifacts released directly from his private estate. This item comes with his personal ink-imprinted signature stamp on the certificate of authenticity, which serves as his legally binding, authorized mark of verification and carries the full weight of a hand-signed signature.
Sammy Hagar's 1984 album VOA was the high point of his solo career before he joined Van Halen, carried by "I Can't Drive 55," a defiant protest against the national 55 mph speed limit that became one of the decade's best-known hard rock singles. Its success helped make Hagar the choice to replace David Lee Roth in Van Halen in 1985, and their first album together, 5150, became the band's first No. 1 record. Hagar's work as a solo artist, with Montrose, and with Van Halen led to his 2007 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen.
Condition: The award is in very good condition, presenting minor signs of wear, aging, and storage consistent with its vintage heritage. The front plexiglass shows only minor marks from handling over the years. On the disc itself, the gold covering on the album has started to warp slightly near the center record label, a common occurrence for awards of this specific construction that does not diminish the striking overall presentation of this rock artifact.
