Sam Kinison, a former Pentecostal preacher, became one of the most distinctive voices in 1980s stand-up comedy, known for a confrontational style punctuated by his trademark primal scream. He broke through on Rodney Dangerfield's HBO young comedians special in the mid-1980s and released comedy albums including "Louder Than Hell" and "Have You Seen Me Lately?" His closeness to the hard rock world showed most clearly in his 1988 cover of "Wild Thing," whose music video featured cameos from numerous rock musicians of the era, a crossover between stand-up comedy and the hair metal scene that continued until his death in a car accident in 1992.
