Garbage formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in the early 1990s, uniting producer-musicians Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker with Scottish singer Shirley Manson, whose commanding presence made her one of the most recognizable frontwomen of the alternative rock era. Vig, already known for producing Nirvana's Nevermind, helped shape the band's dense blend of rock guitars, electronic textures and pop hooks on albums such as their 1995 self-titled debut and Version 2.0, and the group recorded the theme for the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough. Bleed Like Me, released in 2005, was the band's fourth studio album, and Garbage went on an extended hiatus after its touring cycle before later reuniting to record and perform again.
