This is a 10-inch studio acetate from 1971, featuring two unreleased versions of Cat Stevens's song 'If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out.' The acetate presents a piano-only instrumental and a piano with vocal performance, which are distinct from publicly known versions. This artifact is a rare piece from the production archives of the 1971 film Harold and Maude.
Additional Information: "If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out" was a track specifically composed by Cat Stevens for the 1971 film "Harold and Maude," directed by Hal Ashby. At the time of the movie’s release, Stevens chose not to publish an official soundtrack, resulting in these original recordings being preserved solely within production archives until their official debut in 1984. The film itself gained a cult following, with Stevens's music playing a central role in its emotional narrative.
Provenance/Authenticity: This lot comes directly from the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Ian McLagan, legendary founder and keyboard player of iconic rock band The Small Faces / Faces. McLagan who also toured with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians and Bob Dylan, and recorded with dozens of artists. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Lee McLagan, on behalf of the Ian McLagan estate.
Condition: The 10-inch acetate is in excellent condition, showing only minimal surface scuffing that does not affect its playback quality. It provides clear, direct audio of these historically significant recordings from one of the notable film-music collaborations of the 1970s.
