Item Details: Crank up the volume for the ultimate crown jewel of eighties rock memorabilia, featuring an authentic RIAA platinum sales award for Van Halen's diamond-certified masterpiece, 1984. Commemorating the monumental milestone of over one million copies sold, this spectacular award honors the earth-shattering commercial success of "Jump," "Panama," and "Hot for Teacher." This coveted piece is designed in the highly collectible strip plate style format, featuring a sleek and classic presentation layout. Giving this artifact elite insider status, the award is officially presented to Zeke Clark, Van Halen's legendary longtime guitar technician, making it a premier, museum-quality piece from the inner circle of the band's most iconic era. Measuring approximately 16 3/4 x 20 3/4 inches, this incredible accolade stands as a definitive monument to the band's peak global dominance.
Provenance/Authenticity: Randall "Zeke" Clark is a renowned luthier and legendary guitar/amp technician who got his start in the San Francisco music scene in the 70s, working with various A-list artists until moving to LA in the 80s, where he worked for Eddie Van Halen.
From 1985 to 1993, he served as Edward Van Halen’s lead guitar and amp tech, transitioning to the crew with Sammy Hagar to maintain the band's gear through the monumental 5150, OU812, and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge eras.
Beyond his historic tenure as the custodian of Eddie's tone, Clark's elite five-decade career includes building, repairing, and maintaining specialized gear for iconic artists such as Prince, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Heart, Poison, and others. This curated selection of items offers collectors a unique and direct connection to rock history through the hands of a master craftsman who shaped the sound of guitar royalty.
This item was personally handled, vetted, and released by Zeke Clark, ensuring its authenticity and rock-history provenance. Zeke Clark utilizes an Official Personal Signature Stamp to validate and inventory documents and artifacts released directly from his private estate. This item comes with his personal ink-imprinted signature stamp on the certificate of authenticity, which serves as his legally binding, authorized mark of verification and carries the full weight of a hand-signed signature.
Released in January 1984, Van Halen's sixth studio album 1984 reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, held from the top spot by Michael Jackson's Thriller, and was eventually certified Diamond by the RIAA for sales of more than ten million copies in the United States. Its lead single "Jump," built around Eddie Van Halen's synthesizer riff, became the band's only No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Panama" and "Hot for Teacher" showed the guitar-driven hard rock that had made the group a major force on rock radio and MTV. The album was the last full-length studio release by the original lineup with David Lee Roth until 2012, marking the end of an era before Sammy Hagar joined the band.
Condition: The award is preserved in very good condition, showcasing a beautiful front presentation with common signs of wear, aging, and storage consistent with a genuine, handled music industry artifact. The front plexiglass and original frame exhibit light surface marks and minor scuffing accumulated over decades of preservation. On the reverse side, the original backing paper is completely absent from this piece, exposing the back of the frame and display construction, which is a typical occurrence for awards handled during industry use and does not impact the striking visual appeal of the front display.
