Released in 1980, Women and Children First was Van Halen's third album and its first built entirely on original material, produced by Ted Templeman and featuring songs such as "And the Cradle Will Rock..." and "Everybody Wants Some!!" The album reached the top ten on the Billboard 200 and continued the band's run of commercially successful records with its original lineup of Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth. Eddie Van Halen's two-handed tapping technique and inventive guitar sound, paired with Roth's showmanship, made the band one of the most influential hard rock acts of its era and shaped a generation of guitarists before Roth's departure in 1985.
