This original, card-sized handbill promotes The Rolling Stones' iconic Wednesday night residency at Eel Pie Island during August and September 1963. Known as a crucial period in the band's rise to prominence in the London blues scene, the handbill also features advertisements for the club’s elite weekly lineup, including a Sunday residency by the Cyril Davies Rhythm & Blues All-Stars and a rotating Saturday schedule of performers on the reverse. It measures approximately 2 3/8 x 3 1/2 inches, capturing a snapshot of the influential Thames Delta R&B era.
Additional Information: During the summer of 1963, The Rolling Stones were rapidly gaining popularity and establishing themselves as leaders of the British R&B movement. Eel Pie Island, located on the River Thames, was a key venue in this scene, drawing music lovers and emerging artists. The Stones' performances at this venue played a significant role in cementing their reputation, just before the release of their debut single "Come On" in June 1963.
Provenance/Authenticity: This lot comes directly from the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Ian McLagan, legendary founder and keyboard player of iconic rock band The Small Faces / Faces. McLagan who also toured with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians and Bob Dylan, and recorded with dozens of artists. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Lee McLagan, on behalf of the Ian McLagan estate.
Condition: The handbill is in extremely good condition, with only common signs of wear, aging, and storage. It retains excellent clarity and structural integrity for its age, offering a rare glimpse into the summer 1963 performance schedule at Eel Pie Island, an iconic venue in rock history.
