Offered Here: Small Faces 1967 - 2023 Small Faces & Immediate Records Archival Collection. This collection spans decades of rock-and-roll history, originating directly from the personal bookshelves of the legendary Small Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan. It includes two rare original promotional artifacts: a 1968 trifold pamphlet for the Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake album, which shows age discoloration, mild staining, and small tears; and a 1967 Immediate Records folded one-page newsletter titled Small Faces No. 2, which exhibits pencil marks, heavy edge wear, and age-related staining. The collection is further enriched by three reference volumes in very good condition: the 2003 edition of Nice One: The Comprehensive Guide to the Worldwide Vinyl Recordings of the Small Faces, Mark Jones’s 2016 work The Immediate Discography: The First 20 Years, and Simon Spence’s 2023 definitive history, Immediate.
Additional Information: The Small Faces, formed in London in 1965, were a pivotal force in the 1960s British rock scene, known for their innovative sound that combined mod rhythms and psychedelic influences. Their 1968 album Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake is particularly noted for its conceptual structure and was a commercial success. The band played a crucial role in the development of the UK rock movement, and their work with Immediate Records was significant in shaping the sound of the era.
Provenance/Authenticity: This lot comes directly from the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Lee McLagan, legendary founder and keyboard player of iconic rock band The Small Faces / Faces. McLagan who also toured with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians and Bob Dylan, and recorded with dozens of artists. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Lee McLagan, on behalf of the Ian McLagan estate.
Condition: The items in this archival collection are in very good condition overall. The 1968 pamphlet and 1967 newsletter show authentic signs of aging, such as discoloration, small tears, edge wear, and pencil marks, contributing to their historical veracity. The three reference volumes are in a maintained state, reflecting careful preservation over the years.
