By 1977 Queen had become one of the most successful rock acts in Britain and North America, building on the breakthrough of "Bohemian Rhapsody," which topped the UK singles chart in 1975. That year the band released News of the World, whose paired anthems "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" were written with audience participation in mind and became fixtures at concerts and sporting events worldwide. Freddie Mercury's theatrical stage presence, wide vocal range and command of large crowds made him one of the most influential frontmen in rock, a reputation later reinforced by Queen's performance at Live Aid in 1985.
