Offered Here: Janis Joplin 1969 Pewter Blue Stone Necklace
Item Details: Own an intimately personal piece of psychedelic rock history with this stunning pewter necklace once owned by the cosmic queen of rock, Janis Joplin! Acquired by the renowned Irwin Pate from a former concert venue worker, this incredible artifact features an array of colorful small stones highlighted by a striking crescent-moon-shaped blue stone in the center. The soft pewter metal has developed a gorgeous, authentic vintage patina, complete with natural surface indentations and wear that give it a beautiful, beautifully weathered character, attached to a clasp-less chain.
Provenance / Authenticity: LOA from Irwin Pate
Janis Joplin rose from the San Francisco scene with Big Brother and the Holding Company, whose 1967 Monterey Pop Festival performance brought her national attention and whose album Cheap Thrills reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart in 1968. In 1969 she launched a solo career with the Kozmic Blues Band, performed at Woodstock, and was known as much for her layered beads, bangles and bohemian jewelry as for her raw, blues-rooted voice, a look that helped define counterculture fashion. Her death in October 1970 at age 27 preceded the release of Pearl and its No. 1 single "Me and Bobby McGee," and her influence on women in rock was recognized with her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
