Offered Here: Iron Maiden 2011 Derek Riggs Eddie Comes Unraveled Original Artwork with COA
Item Details: This is a premier offering for heavy metal collectors and fine art enthusiasts alike: an authentic 2011 original illustration by Derek Riggs, the visionary creator behind Iron Maiden's legendary mascot, Eddie. Entitled Eddie Comes Unraveled, this striking piece is rendered using a common Bic pen on professional watercolor board, demonstrating the artist's masterful linework and incredible attention to detail. The composition centers on a heavily stylized, mummified Eddie reminiscent of the iconic Powerslave era, bridging classic metal imagery with a raw, intricate sketching style. Presenting beautifully for immediate display, the piece is fully matted and backed, measuring approximately 16 1/2 by 18 3/4 inches, and stands ready for professional framing.
Provenance / Authenticity: Includes a certificate of authenticity from and signed by Derek Riggs
Derek Riggs created Eddie, the skeletal figure who first appeared on the cover of Iron Maiden's self-titled 1980 debut album and went on to become one of the most recognizable mascots in heavy metal. Riggs painted the band's album and single sleeves throughout the 1980s, and his detailed, often macabre artwork helped define the visual identity of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The 1984 album Powerslave and its accompanying World Slavery Tour cast Eddie in an ancient Egyptian setting, an era of imagery that remains closely associated with both the band and Riggs's work.
Condition: The item is in exceptionally good condition, showing almost no signs of wear, aging, or prolonged storage. The watercolor board remains structurally sound and flat against its backing, while the ballpoint pen ink retains its original clarity and depth without fading. The surrounding matting and backing are clean and securely attached, preserving the edges of the artwork and ensuring it remains fully protected until it is placed into a permanent frame.
