Offered Here: Guns N' Roses 1987 Appetite for Destruction RIAA Diamond Award Presented to John Koladner
Item Details: An exceptional piece of rock and roll history, this official RIAA certified diamond award celebrates Guns N' Roses' legendary 1987 debut album, Appetite for Destruction. This specific award was presented to John Koladner, the iconic Geffen Records A&R executive who played a pivotal role in the band's monumental success. Introduced by the RIAA on March 19, 1999, to honor albums selling over ten million copies, this piece represents one of the inaugural diamond award presentations. The award stands approximately 16 inches tall and features a sleek two-piece construction, including a base measuring 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches with an engraved presentation plaque, and a striking glass statue topped with a crystal jewel. Combining a historic milestone for one of the greatest rock albums of all time with elite music industry provenance, this rarely seen trophy is a premier addition to any advanced entertainment memorabilia collection.
Released by Geffen Records in July 1987, Guns N' Roses' debut album Appetite for Destruction sold slowly at first before MTV exposure and extensive touring carried it to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1988, driven by the No. 1 single "Sweet Child o' Mine" along with "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City." Its raw, street-level hard rock stood apart from the polished glam metal then dominating the charts, and it went on to become the best-selling debut album in U.S. history. The record's success made Guns N' Roses one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s and helped steer mainstream rock toward a grittier, more aggressive sound.
Condition: This award is in exceptionally good condition, showing very little sign of wear, aging, or storage. The glass structure remains clear and intact, the crystal jewel is firmly seated, and the presentation base maintains its clean, polished look.
