Foo Fighters began in 1994 as a solo project by Dave Grohl after the end of Nirvana, and Grohl played nearly every instrument on the band's 1995 debut album before assembling a full touring group. By the mid-2000s the lineup of Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins and Chris Shiflett had become one of the most consistent arena draws in rock, and in 2005 the band released In Your Honor, a double album that split its songs between a hard rock disc and an acoustic disc. The group went on to win multiple Grammy Awards, including several for Best Rock Album, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, the year before Hawkins's death in 2022.
