Offered Here: Faces 1970-1995 Lot of 12 U.K./Europe/World LPs. This auction presents a comprehensive twelve-piece collection of vinyl records representing the work and legacy of the Faces and their affiliated acts over the course of 25 years. This set includes foundational albums such as First Step (1970), Long Player (1971), A Nod’s as Good as a Wink... (1971), and Ooh La La (1973), along with live recordings like Coast to Coast: Overture and Beginners. This lot also features key solo albums by Rod Stewart, including Every Picture Tells a Story and Never a Dull Moment. A highlight is the autographed Quiet Melon LP from 1995, a notable association copy from Art Wood’s pre-Faces group, inscribed by Ian McLagan.
Additional Information: The Faces, formed in 1969, blended rock and roll with soul and blues influences. Their album "A Nod’s as Good as a Wink..." achieved notable success with the hit single “Stay with Me.” The debut "First Step" marked the band's raw energy, evolving from Steve Marriott's departure and Rod Stewart's and Ron Wood's entrance. The 1995 Quiet Melon release captures the genesis of the Faces sound, with members contributing to early jam sessions that eventually shaped their music style.
Provenance/Authenticity: This lot comes directly from the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Ian McLagan, legendary founder and keyboard player of iconic rock band The Small Faces / Faces. McLagan who also toured with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians and Bob Dylan, and recorded with dozens of artists. It will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Lee McLagan, on behalf of the Ian McLagan estate.
Condition: The Faces studio and live LPs are mostly in good or better condition, with wear evident on sleeves and one missing jacket from the First Step album. The Rod Stewart albums and Quiet Melon LP are in notably good condition, with minimal wear. The Quiet Melon LP features a crisp jacket and a clear bold marker inscription by Ian McLagan.
