Eric Clapton is the only artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times, honored as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream and as a solo artist, reflecting a career that helped carry American blues into the mainstream of British and international rock. From the late 1980s onward he balanced arena touring with a renewed focus on blues and acoustic material, and his 1992 Unplugged performance and the song "Tears in Heaven" brought him multiple Grammy Awards and a new generation of listeners. He also founded the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, a treatment facility for addiction, and launched the Crossroads Guitar Festival to support it, gathering several generations of guitarists on one stage.
