Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, the Eagles became one of the defining acts of the Southern California country-rock sound, and their compilation Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) ranks among the best-selling albums in American history. After splitting in 1980, the band reunited in 1994 for the Hell Freezes Over tour and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. The tongue-in-cheek name of the Farewell I Tour, which began in 2002, signaled that the band had no intention of retiring, and the shows were documented on the Farewell I Tour: Live from Melbourne release.
