Item Details: This rare lot offers a fascinating glimpse into rock history with a humorous prank tour laminate created for Alice in Chains during their 1991 to 1992 support slot on Van Halen's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour. Produced by the legendary Van Halen road crew, this piece commemorates the famous, high-spirited backstage prank wars that took place between both bands, an era of camaraderie that has since become the stuff of rock and roll legend. The unique novelty piece measures approximately 3 1/4 x 5 inches and serves as an exceptional artifact from a defining moment in early 1990s rock touring history.
Provenance/Authenticity: Randall "Zeke" Clark is a renowned luthier and legendary guitar/amp technician who got his start in the San Francisco music scene in the 70s, working with various A-list artists until moving to LA in the 80s, where he worked for Eddie Van Halen.
From 1985 to 1993, he served as Edward Van Halen’s lead guitar and amp tech, transitioning to the crew with Sammy Hagar to maintain the band's gear through the monumental 5150, OU812, and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge eras.
Beyond his historic tenure as the custodian of Eddie's tone, Clark's elite five-decade career includes building, repairing, and maintaining specialized gear for iconic artists such as Prince, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Heart, Poison, and others. This curated selection of items offers collectors a unique and direct connection to rock history through the hands of a master craftsman who shaped the sound of guitar royalty.
This item was personally handled, vetted, and released by Zeke Clark, ensuring its authenticity and rock-history provenance. Zeke Clark utilizes an Official Personal Signature Stamp to validate and inventory documents and artifacts released directly from his private estate. This item comes with his personal ink-imprinted signature stamp on the certificate of authenticity, which serves as his legally binding, authorized mark of verification and carries the full weight of a hand-signed signature.
Alice in Chains emerged from Seattle with their 1990 debut Facelift, whose single "Man in the Box" gained wide MTV exposure and helped make it one of the first albums from the city's burgeoning scene to be certified gold. Their slot opening for Van Halen on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour placed the band before large arena audiences as Van Halen, then fronted by Sammy Hagar, was promoting an album that reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The pairing linked an established hard rock act with a rising Seattle band whose heavy, harmony-driven sound would go on to define much of early 1990s rock.
Condition: The laminate is in overall good condition, exhibiting common signs of wear, ageing, and storage consistent with its use on the road. Structurally, the laminated pieces remain attached at the bottom edge only, as the rest of the layers have separated over time. Additionally, a portion of the image on one side has lifted against the plastic casing.
