Alex Van Halen co-founded Van Halen with his brother Eddie in Pasadena, California, and his powerful, groove-driven drumming anchored one of the most influential hard rock bands of the late 1970s and 1980s. Released in February 2012, A Different Kind of Truth was the band's first studio album in 14 years and its first with singer David Lee Roth since 1984, and it debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The supporting tour, which featured Alex's nephew Wolfgang Van Halen on bass in place of original bassist Michael Anthony, extended into Japan in 2013 and stands as one of the final major tours of the band's career.
