JANIS JOPLIN ORIGINAL BOB MASSE ARTWORK COLLECTION

One of Bob Masse's signature pieces from the past few decades has been the commemorative Janis Joplin poster, which has become a staple memento among collectors.

This dazzling lot presents a number of absolute breathtaking pieces of original art, which show the natural progression of 'the making of' this stunning poster. In all, there are 6 pieces, each of which unique and stunning;

1- The first piece shows the two very first drawings and designs for this poster, which consists of the initial borders and lettering (left panel, 20 x 11 inches), as well as the secondary border and center fill (right panel, 17 x 10 inches). Both items have been professionally matted. The dimensions of the matting are 23 1/2 x 26 3/4 inches.
2- The second piece is another fantastic collage, containing 4 items; the original color photo as used for the center part of the poster, the first design of the colored background, a part of the black & white border design and lastly, a piece of the fully colored border design. These 4 pieces too have been professionally matted and the dimensions are 20 x 24 inches.
3- The third item is a black & white copy which measures 10 x 17 inches and shows the initial design of the poster. Parts of the design are hand colored.
4- This is the 'piece de resistance', featuring the final - and full color - art. From this very design the now famous poster was produced and it is truly one of Masse's masterpieces. This final art design is professionally matted and measure 18 x 28 inches.
5- Before production printing of this Janis Joplin poster would commence, Bob Masse made printers' proof sheets to see if minor adjustments or alterations in the work had to be made before the production run was approved. Because only few of these proofs were made (and never publicly sold), they have become quite desirable to collectors. The sheet as featured in this lot measures 19 x 25 1/2 inches.
6- Last - but not least - is an actual poster, which has long been sold out. This gorgeous poster measures 13 1/2 x 23 1/2 inches.

The condition of this majestic collection is excellent and all items have been individually hand signed by Bob Masse.
